Just some random thoughts for you incase you haven't tried. Since obviously this problem is within the script itself. Make sure RunLogonScriptSync value = 0 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\sy stem HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ You may also want to try adding the /D switch to your net use statement in the logon script if you haven't already. Eg: (if \\2ktsvr\profiles is the profile dir) net use S: /D net use S: \\2ktsvr\profiles Or are you specifically setting this within AD users and computers? If you only have one mapping, why not eliminate the batch login script (or whatever it is) and set it within AD users and computers. If you need them to save to drive Z, you can connect that one drive without a "login script". There is also an issue with Q329170 installed on Windows 2000 machines that causes the problem you are referring to. This is due to an issue with loading and unloading roaming profiles. Either remove it and/or apply the Hotfix listed within MS KB Article #Q814770. You will probably need to contact Microsoft for the specific patch. Symptoms of this are Userenv errors on the server that it is logging in to (Metaframe Servers). Other than that, I would suggest you take hold of a machine that suffers from this for a day and do some debugging. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316243 Hope that helps some. -Ryan -----Original Message----- From: Schneider, Chad M. Too many horror stories about SP4. This issue is ONLY on MF SP3 servers. Either built that way fresh, or upgraded from MF SP2. I can walk through and prove it on command. MF XPe SP2, good logons, a few seconds, upgrade to MF SP3, BAM! Instant slow logons. The script is sunning synchronous, and all the reg. settings and the like are set to run asynchronous. I can not wait for the script to finish to run the app. That is why we set it to asynchronous. _____ From: Ryan Lambert [mailto:rlambert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, August 25, 2003 10:48 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Chad, I know Brian released a whitepaper about troubleshooting slow logons a little bit ago in this forum. (I'll look for it if you can't find it, or maybe Brian would be kind enough to post again. ;-)) Did you run down the list and see if any of those fixed your issue? Also, do you have 2k Service Pack 4 on that box? -RL -----Original Message----- From: Schneider, Chad M. I feel like I am the only person experiencing this. Since putting MF SP3 on some servers, the logons to those has gotten INCREDIBLY long, small profiles, taking 2-3 minutes to open a published app. The script is set on the machines and show in the registry, to run asynchronous, but it runs synchronous and I have to wait for my script to complete, before I can get the app. to be usable. This is causing great frustration and heating up the already warm water I am in. Thoughts, ideas, anyone else experiencing this? Chad Schneider Technology Analyst Bemis IT 920-303-7609
