Yes . . that's exchange for you. You won't see the DB's grow smaller until a defrag is done. Oddly enough, if you migrate your mailbox and public folder data to another server exchange will only move the relevant data and will leave behind all the spaces in the DB's. Case in point, I migrated a client's DB's with a Priv.edb near 15 GB, and once it was all said and done with no mailboxes being trimmed or deleted the priv.edb was a mere 8 GB.=20 The question though Michael is where are your exchange directories, and where are you running out of space? Are your exchange logs on the same drive as your edb's? Do you have circular logging enabled? Do you backup your exchange server regularly with a viable agent software, (which cleans up the log files) or with the build in NT backup? The exchange optimizer can help you locate where all the key files / folder for your exchange system are located and also help you migrate them to drives with more space available. However, keep in mind the optimizer will stop all exchange services in order to do this.=20 HTH J -----Original Message----- From: Michael Boggan [mailto:MBoggan@xxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 10:50 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: Exchange 5.5 maintenance Thats what i thought but i had a user delete over a gig of emails yesterday and the space wasn't freed up. as a mater of fact i have less today then i had yesterday. only about 300mb free now. =20 > _________________________________=20 >=20 > Michael Boggan > Network Engineer/Citrix Admin > Virtual Desktop Inc.=20 > Dallas, Texas=20 > Ph: (972) 960-6400=20 > Fax: (972) 960-6445=20 > email: mboggan@xxxxxxxxxxx=20 > <http://www.virtualdesktopinc.com>=20 > _________________________________=20 -----Original Message----- From: Taylor, George [mailto:gtaylor@xxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 12:07 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: Exchange 5.5 maintenance You won't get the space back until an off-line defrag is done on your databases. Look over the doco for Exutil and if you do an offline defrag insure you have atleast as much free diskspace as your databases are taking up or bad things happen. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Boggan [mailto:MBoggan@xxxxxxxxxxx]=3D20 Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 10:52 AM To: 'THIN@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] OT: Exchange 5.5 maintenance I have an exchange server that is running low on disk space.
