Correct. There are some additional Exchange attributes that need to be replicated between AD and the Exchange 5.5 directory before you upgrade to Exchange 2000. There is a doc from Microsoft called the 6-step Case Scenario to Upgrading Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000. It should either be on the Exchange site or the Technet site. I run AD domain in mixed mode with Exchange = 5.5. Why should I need ADC other then merging my Directories? Vince, the ADC prefers Native Mode as it will convert the DLs to =3D = Universal Groups. Universal Groups are only supported in Native mode. =3D = However, it will work in mixed-mode, but there will be limitations (like =3D you = can't assign permission with the converted groups). You most likely =3D have = to delete them and recreate them as Global Groups. IMHO it is better to upgrade to Exchange 2000 = right =3D away. Your Exchange 5.5 has it's own Directory service and Windows 2000 = has =3D its own too. I think you do not need ADC at all. Any comment? Vince -----Original Message----- From: Evan Mann [mailto:emann@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 1:47 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: AD Native Mode question Yes. If you demote your BDCs you can switch to native mode, but once = =3D you go native mode, you can't go back. So if you ever needed to an NT BDC = for =3D some reason, you'd be SOL. The extra benefits of native mode are few = and far between unless you have a rather large multi-domain setup (from what = =3D I've read). So I just leave it mixed "just in case". -----Original Message----- From: Vince Tan [mailto:VinceT@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 1:34 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: AD Native Mode question Can I demote the bdc to a member server? -----Original Message----- From: Evan Mann [mailto:emann@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 1:36 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: AD Native Mode question You can't go to native mode if you have any BDC's on your network still. -----Original Message----- From: Vince Tan [mailto:VinceT@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 1:26 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] OT: AD Native Mode question I think I finally got my Active Directory up and running but it is =3D = running in mixed mode.
