reading its specs, it does appear to be very close to the hp 4500, and i guess
even looks slightly like one!

A lot of the Minolta printers are HP clones. Try some of the generic hp
drivers and you might get lucky. Like the HP LJ 4500C for lasers or the HP DJ
550C for inkjets
