OK. I thought that I *must* have a 2003 LS. But I didn't know that it could be on a member server (I realize the member server *must* be 2003). Good! So that clears the way for me to put a 2003 TS server in place, running 2003 LS, on a member server in my 2000 domain. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Leone, Systems Administrator Philadelphia Contributionship 210 S. 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 <mailto:mleone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> V: 215-627-1752 x1282 F: 215-627-5354 -----Original Message----- From: Claudio Rodrigues [mailto:crodrigues@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, March 08, 2004 10:23 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: MS W2K Terminal Services to W2K3 questions No need for a DC with 2003. And you CANNOT use a 2000 LS to handle 2003 licenses. A 2003 LS can handle both 2000/2003 licenses but not the other way around. This means as soon a 2003 TS is on the picture that must be a 2003 LS. -----Original Message----- From: Leone, Michael [mailto:MLeone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: March 8, 2004 9:38 AM To: WinNT List (E-mail) Cc: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] MS W2K Terminal Services to W2K3 questions I've got a MS Win2K Terminal Server in place, and today got in the new hardware to replace (I am severely underpowered, for the number of people using it). I also have a new copy of Win2K3 Server. Additionally, my old Win2k TS CALs expire in a couple months, so I have (or will, once the check clears) have brand shiny new W2K3 TS per device CALs. Almost ready to replace the old lumbering beast. Here's my question ... W2K TS Licensing had to run on a DC (well, there was undocumented options, and a reg hack, to allow running on a non-DC, but it was supposed to run on a DC). Still true with W2K3 TS Licensing Manager? This would be my first Win2K3 server. I'm a bit uncomfortable with making it a DC, since I haven't had any time to investigate what effect putting a W2K3 DC into a W2K domain has.=20 Can a W2K3 TS server point at a W2K DC that is running W2K TS Licensing? I can install W2K TS Licening Manager on one of my existing W2K DCs, and transfer the licenses to it. But will the W2K3 server like that? Pointers/hints/gotchas? If I do have to make this Terminal Serevr W2K3 a DC, what kind of prep do I need to do to my W2K AD? And what kind of practical effect does that have? Can I continue to administer the domain from a Win2K or WinXP workstation? (yes, I cross-posted this to both a Terminal Services list, and a general admin list, because there might be issues with both aspects) -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Leone, Systems Administrator Philadelphia Contributionship 210 S. 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 <mailto:mleone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> V: 215-627-1752 x1282 F: 215-627-5354 ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor triCerat Inc. triCerat makes your job easier by offering essential applications to eliminate your printing, policy and profile, and your application management problems. http://www.triCerat.com=20 ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thin.net/links.cfm *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or=20 set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thin.net/citrixlist.cfm ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor triCerat Inc. triCerat makes your job easier by offering essential applications to eliminate your printing, policy and profile, and your application management problems. http://www.triCerat.com ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thin.net/links.cfm *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thin.net/citrixlist.cfm ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor triCerat Inc. triCerat makes your job easier by offering essential applications to eliminate your printing, policy and profile, and your application management problems. http://www.triCerat.com ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thin.net/links.cfm *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thin.net/citrixlist.cfm
