MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003, Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 for
Microsoft NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition

Sympoms

When clients access published applications, they are unable to synchronize
with their Palm Pilot. If clients access a published desktop they can
synchronize.

Cause

Hotsync is normally launched from the user?s startup directory at logon.
When clients access published applications, items from the startup directory
are not processed. There a few solutions for the client who wishes to use
hotsync in conjunction with a published application.

Resolution

1) Install Palm Desktop 4.01 or greater on the server. Publish hotsync.exe
as a separate application. Clients can launch the published hotsync.exe
before launching the application they wish to sync with.

2) Publish a batch file or other script to launch hotsync.exe in conjunction
with the application the client wishes to sync with. You can also include
commands to redirect the client?s COM ports within this same batch file.

Example batch file:

net use comx: \\client\comz:

:: comx is the number of the COM port you are mapping to on the server and z
is the number of the COM port to which your palm pilot is connected on your
client device.

Start Hotsync.exe

::the directory containing Hotsync would need to be in the system?s path
statement, or you can include scripting to navigate to that directory using
the cd command prior to issuing the start command.

Start Outlook.exe

::Same warning here for Outlook as for hotsync

More Information

Hotsync may remain running after exiting Outlook.

Follow CTX891671 - Graceful Logoff from a Published Application Keeps
Sessions in Active State to add, ?hotsync.exe,? to the,
?LogoffCheckSysModules,? registry value. This will gracefully end the
session once Outlook is closed.
