Hello All, .just for clarification.. Tim's comments refer to Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. Yes, the beta of SP2 is out now. It's available as a download for MSDN universal subscribers. From a TS standpoint, SP2 for Windows XP allows for 2 remote desktop connections as well as the "console" redirection. On the information I provided information about MetaFrame XP version "2". One thing I forgot to mention is that the new version of MetaFrame went into beta last October. SP2 should be out late spring/early summer. Mostly a security rollup (catching up with Server 2003 stuff), however it is rumored to include two changes worth note: 1) Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) will be enabled by default. Previously it was disabled and you had to turn it on. Now it will be on and you must turn it off if you don't want it. 2) The memory model will now add support for NX (or "No eXecute) memory pages. In particular stack and heap pages will by default be marked to prevent processors that support this feature from executing any code in those pages. This will make it harder (not impossible) for viruses to use buffer overrun techniques. While there may be a very small number of applications that have a problem with NX, they should be fixed anyway. Now the bad news. Intel Pentium and Celeron processors don't support NX. AMD K8 and Intel Itanium processors do. More bad news. You have to enable PAE mode for the OS also. Beta was supposed to happen in December, but was pushed back to January (not sure if it is out; the beta is for developers to fix their applications broken by NX). tim From: Tony Lyne Sent: Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:48 a.m. To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: MF XP V2 Does anyone know anything about MF XP 2?
