One method is to use Softricity. This virtualizes the application so each instance gets its own virtual HKLM. A second method would be VmWare, providing complete virtual machines to each firm. With VmWare, you pay for the VmWare and extra OS licenses. With Softricity, you pay for Softricity, but no extra OS licenses. There are lots of other differences you can get into, but that's the quick and easy bottom line. Check them out yourself. A problem that we deal with is that all of the apps have email functionality that use the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail default key to choose the app to create emails. That's fine typically, but we throw multiple email clients into the pot. Some firms run MS Office 2003 (extra charge) and the rest use Outlook Express. This causes a dilemma because there can only be one client and not everyone pays for Office 2003, so they have to use Outlook Express (not good when the Office 2003 want to use their Outlook address book). So I'm just throwing this one out there to see if anyone else has dealt with this, and if there is a way to get around it? Thanks!
