1) I wouldn't go with option 1 unless your servers are very under
utilizied. You'll end up using more VM's than phsycial servers.
2) Consider blades or even 64-bit. while 64-bit isn't all it's cracked up
to be quite yet, you may be surprised.
3) Don't plan on spending money you don't have too. If your at PS4
Enterprise you'll have the new UPD and memory/cpu optimizations. They may
be what your looking for. I have successfully implemented the new UPD in a
number of environments and have had very good luck with it.
