Hi again, neighbors- I recently wrote to SDOT about my concerns about what's
happening on 35th. I am not sure if you feel similarly, but if so, take the
survey below!

Hello, Sara -
Thank you for writing about the transportation safety work in your neighborhood
in West Seattle. I defer to Jim to talk about the 35th Ave SW Safety Corridor
work, but can connect you with more information about our proposed West Seattle
Neighborhood Greenway.
Please go to our website to learn more about potential greenway routes and
crossings of 35th. We'd love it if you could take our survey so we can better
understand what you think and what you're experiencing, as well as get your
preferences for the route and crossing. The website is at
http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/WSeattleGreenway.htm. Feel free to share ;
it with your neighbors and other people who live, work, and travel in West
Seattle. Thank you.
Best,
Dan

Subject: 35th ave SW concerns
Hello, Jim and Dan-
I am not able to come to the meeting on Thursday at High Point but I wanted to
still express my concerns about what is going on on 35th. I live on 32nd and
Othello and am on 35th all the time as a driver, walker and bike rider. Now
that 35th is only two lanes, it has become even more dangerous for anyone
trying to turn onto 35th off of side streets and is nearly impossible to cross
(especially during rush hour) since there is now a constant stream of traffic.
And, it is nearly impossible to ever turn left onto 35th.
As a pedestrian and bike rider, I am often trying to cross 35th and I am
fearful. If I try to wait to cross with no traffic, I wait for minutes, and
during rush hour, forget it. So, I will often try to cross one lane and wait in
the middle lane until some nice driver will let me cross. Sometimes drivers
will stop, but then the car behind will screech on their brakes not
anticipating the car to stop. So, then I witness many accidents waiting to
happen.
I am extremely disappointed with the 35th plan. It has been bad enough from
Roxbury to Morgan, and I cannot believe that it will now continue all the way
to the bridge. With the increasing amount of traffic in West Seattle, sure, you
are slowing down traffic, but you have increased traffic jams on the 35th
making it impossible to merge onto 35th or cross the street. And, I believe
with the idling that is occurring due to the traffic jams at rush hour, you are
increasing air pollution.
I would like a response to know why this is what has been planned, and what you
plan to do about my above concerns, (especially merging onto 35th as well as
crossing the street.) I know many people in my neighborhood are equally
concerned about what seems to be a very short-sighted plan.
Thank you,
Sara Esrick
