Hi I am the birder from Alabama that asked for info on Texas for a late April, early May, 4 day vacation with my dad. We had a great trip. We stayed at the Alamo Inn Bed and Breakfast. We originally planned to stay one or two nights but were highly impressed that we stayed 5 nights. We saw a total of approximately160 bird species. The book "A Birder's Guide to the Rio Grande Valley" was very helpful at helping us get around and find great birding areas. I got around 15 life birds and my dad who was here for his first time got about 30 life birds. The book helped us to find 3 Aplomado Falcons, 2 on Old port Isabel rd, and 1 on hwy 100. Also Cassin's sparrows on Old Port Isabel rd. I asked Keith from the bed and breakfast where to go birding for one of the days and he said go to S. Padre Island, the winds are good. We saw tons of birds there including 3 Canada's and a Mourning Warbler. More Baltimore Orioles than I've seen in a life time. The weather turned out pleasant, even though it was 102 the day before we arrived and over 100 the day after we left. It was in the 80's for us. Thank you Lord. And thanks again for all the info from the Texas birders.
