Dear Texbirders, I'm a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Oklahoma studying the hybrid zone between Tufted and Black-crested Titmice (some of y'all may remember some of my previous RFIs for titmouse sites and posts long, long ago on Wise County birds). I'm nearing the end of my degree, but still have a bit more work to do. Right now, I'm looking for two sites at which to trap titmice at bird feeders: one in the Denton area (or to the east or north) to obtain Tufted Titmice and a site in the Childress or Quanah area for Black-crested Titmice. I need somewhere where you are regularly feeding titmice, as that's the easiest way for me to catch them this time of year. I have all the appropriate permits and am happy to explain in detail what I'll be doing with the birds (long story short: a female mate choice experiment to see if females prefer their own species or the other species). The birds will be released 2-4 weeks after capture, back where I got them. I'm looking to do this trapping between now and the end of February/early March at the latest. So, if you have bird feeders and regular and numerous titmice, please let me know if you'd be interested in letting me trap at your place. You can reach me either at this email address (larksparrow@xxxxxxxxxxxx) or at cmcurry@xxxxxx. Thanks for any help you can provide!
