It must be spring as a whip-poor-will was singing across the lake this morning on Buffalo Bayou. He started calling about 6:50 after the cardinals and wrens but before the robins. Calling window ended after 5 minutes and he did not call during the night unlike chuck-will's widows. Will have to try this evening to see if he sings before leaving after sunset. I had one on Hiway 124 on Monday a couple of miles north of the high rise bridge. It was well skooshed on the shoulder and had lots of ants so could not be salvaged. -- Joseph C.
