Yesterday, Sunday evening I watched the Variegated Flycatcher in its usual area
at South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center from 4:30 to 5:30 pm and again
at 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. It was active and catching lots of bugs.
On the railing of the blue water tower close by a Peregrine Falcon hung out.
Walking the board walks and the most interesting birds were a shy Sora foraging
on the board walk, and two invisible groups of Clapper Rails in the wetlands
that called back and forth a couple of times.
This summer the Mangroves have grown substantially and many are full of fruit.
