On January 2nd, an adult Tundra Swan was photographed in the wetlands at the Nature Conservancy's Independence Creek Preserve in Terrell County. To our knowledge, it is the first swan record for the preserve and perhaps for the county. Anyway, while access to the preserve is limited right now, I did want to make folks aware of the sighting so that others can be on the look out for swans perhaps showing up in other odd locations. The birding on the preserve can be pretty fantastic and we encourage the public to take advantage of our open days and weekends, which are as follows for 2013: March 2, April 12-14, June 8, August 10, September 6-8.
