To bird or not to bird this morning. It was misty to start but I drove to the
Mineola Nature Preserve. The place was very birdy. Highlight of the trip was
a flyover Tricolored Heron the bird flew southeast I guess it is possible it
was coming from nearby Lake Halbrook. Also a bit of a surprise were 2 Anhingas
over the Sabine River and 1 Blue Grosbeak at the beaver pond. Off in the
distance I heard a Red-headed Woodpecker. Warblers very active I had 8
Kentucky Warblers including one the popped up to sing on exposed limb.
Numerous Prothonotary Warblers including 3 that were so busy chasing insects I
think I could have picked one up. Also the place was covered with
Yellow-breast Chats I counted 15 and gave up. Other Warblers: Northern Parula
4+, Yellow-throated Warbler-1, Black-and-White warbler-1, Louisania Waterthrush
-4, Kentucky Warbler-8, Yellow-breast Chat-15, Common Yellowthroat-12. I was
able to show a beginning birdert an Acadian Flycatcher and got a great look at
a Yellow-throated Vireo
On the his day this underbirded place was a delight
