One thing I can do on Texbirds that seems to not be possible on Facebook is to
search archives. I can read accounts of where and how species such as Baird's
or Henslow's Sparrows were seen, even years ago. I enjoy reading these past
accounts. I can search on any of the three servers Texbirds has ever used. I
have even on occasion gone to the archives to find dates for my own sightings
when my record keeping has been sloppy. Information posted on Facebook is
shortly lost forever. Facebook is fast and easy and social. But fast and easy
is not always best. Maybe eBird can someday solve our communication problems
but Facebook just seems primitive and invasive.
