I have no intention of stopping the flow of comment on this issue. Over the short course of this discussion I have received both public and private comments about the subject. I have learned that it is a TOS adopted program and that there are very passionate individuals supporting the project. As I stated earlier I believe this to be a viable and valuable program that TOS should be a supporter and sponsor for. With that in mind I have appointed a committee to study the program, come up with solutions to a program problems, for whatever reason, are not satisfying its participants. The TOS Board has a weekend retreat scheduled of mid-October. This item will be one of the items on the agenda. It is for reasons like this issue and others that face TOS that I believe, as President, that at least annually a board retreat is necessary to deal with the many issues of TOS that take more than the 1 ½ hour board meeting held at our two annual meetings to resolve. It is just not possible to handle all the issues in that short time. In addition, I have taken the responsibility to appoint committee chairs to bring not just the problems but recommendations to resolve them to the October meeting. If any of you have an interest in joining in this effort of an individual committees which areConservation, Budget, Membership, Sanctuary, Publications, Publicity, Field Trip, Advertising or the newly commissioned Century Club committee, please contact me and I will steer you to the correct Committee Chair who I am sure will be happy to accommodate you. The original comment that began this discussion was that some members of TOS (and they are unnamed) were unhappy with what is being done by TOS in this matter. I have been a board member for 4 years now and have not, to my recollection, had this issue discussed at any of them. As President I feel the obligation to confront such issues head on and in this case, the Board needs to be much more actively involved in and take direct control over the program. So, lets all set back, take a deep breath, and move forward to resolving the problems of an issue that is clearly of interest to many of our members. Please, this is your organization, step forward and offer your helping hand in any area of personal interest by becoming an ACTIVE member of one of the above mentioned committees.
