A nice retired couple from Arkansas joined me today for a shorter walk than usual, and we kept mainly to the paved tram road which limited our species seen. A young male indigo bunting came as a great surprise in a flock of gnatcatchers, a few yellow-rumps, a few orange-crowned warblers, and a pine warbler, all just a bit south of the observation tower. Three northern bobwhite were a new species for me for the refuge, located near the access road to Pintail Lake. The visitors also enjoyed the best looks they'd ever had at Lincoln's Sparrows. Walks leave the Visitor Center daily at 8:30.
