[texbirds] Rose-throated Becard at Santa Ana NWR, 7/19/13

This morning I was birding my way into Santa Ana NWR along the tour road, 
tooting and pishing as usual (sounds like an intestinal problem!).  At the 
first bend, by the Pintail Lakes trail crossing, up pops this chunky, big 
headed, rusty backed Rose-throated Becard.  It seemed to me to be a young bird 
as the crown was just getting some dark feathers.  Here's a couple of photos.

At the east end of Willow Lake, two Red-shouldered Hawks were calling and 
chasing each otherr around.  I had not heard of any reports from Santa Ana this 
summer.  Fifteen Rough-winged Sallows including rusty winged youngsters, along 
the river, seemed early to me.  A Black Phoebe at the far east end of Pintal 
Lakes seemed out of place.
