Water is flowing into the resaca as I write and that will have the ducks moving around a little. The best variety has been in the first and second bridge area. Perhaps the Hooded Merganser will decide to relocate to a more visible spot from its current remote hideout. The south end of the park is where the raptors and wading birds were seen this morning. The water level will not be changing in the Hunter's Lane resaca so this should still be the place for Solitary Sandpipers. Today's Bewick's Wren was on Quail Loop. It's always an interesting trail, but if you don't want to walk that far Mesquite Trail is also a good one for wrens. Black-throated Gray Warbler is not on today's list but is still found regularly in the trees around the parking islands. -- Sherry Wilson Resident Park Host Resaca de la Palma State Park 1000 New Carmen Road Brownsville, TX 78521 956-350-2920 Bird Walks every Saturday - 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Butterfly Walks every Sunday - 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Night Hikes every Friday (must RSVP by 5:00 p.m. Thurs) - small fee Nature Tram Rides - Wednesday thru Sunday http://www.facebook.com/resacadelapalma DIRECTIONS: The main entrance to Resaca de la Palma State Park is located on New Carmen Blvd. From Expressway 77/83, exit at Olmito, take FM 1732, follow for 2.5 miles; turn left at New Carmen Road; follow for 1.5 miles; shortly after the gravel hump in the road, turn left to enter the park. *Learn how you can help Texas State Parks:* http://bit.ly/sVdilb 69 species (+1 other taxa) Greater White-fronted Goose 5 Snow Goose 19 Gadwall 53 American Wigeon 3 Mottled Duck 12 Northern Shoveler 41 Northern Pintail 3 Green-winged Teal 5 Bufflehead 1 Least Grebe 15 Pied-billed Grebe 4 Neotropic Cormorant 1 Double-crested Cormorant 1 cormorant sp. 2 American White Pelican 9 Great Blue Heron 3 Great Egret 1 Snowy Egret 5 Black Vulture 1 Turkey Vulture 27 Northern Harrier 1 Cooper's Hawk 1 White-tailed Hawk 1 Red-shouldered Hawk 2 Red-tailed Hawk 2 Common Gallinule 1 American Coot 12 Killdeer 7 Solitary Sandpiper 2 Lesser Yellowlegs 1 Caspian Tern 1 White-winged Dove 1 Inca Dove 5 Common Ground-Dove 1 White-tipped Dove 7 Greater Roadrunner 1 Belted Kingfisher 1 Green Kingfisher 1 Golden-fronted Woodpecker 11 Ladder-backed Woodpecker 7 Crested Caracara 1 American Kestrel 1 Merlin 1 Eastern Phoebe 8 Great Kiskadee 16 White-eyed Vireo 5 Green Jay 33 Tree Swallow 2 Cave Swallow 13 Black-crested Titmouse 6 Verdin 1 House Wren 3 Bewick's Wren 1 Carolina Wren 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 4 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5 Gray Catbird 1 Northern Mockingbird 4 Long-billed Thrasher 3 Black-and-white Warbler 1 Orange-crowned Warbler 16 Common Yellowthroat 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler 10 Olive Sparrow 4 Savannah Sparrow 2 Northern Cardinal 18 Red-winged Blackbird 7 Great-tailed Grackle 15 Brown-headed Cowbird 3 Altamira Oriole 3 Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
