Bentsen-RGV State Park Bird sightings for December 21, 2014

The Red-naped Sapsucker continues near the boat ramp at Kingfisher Overlook.  
Look for Red-shouldered Hawk, Gray Hawk, Green Kingfisher and Vermilion 
Flycatcher in the same area and towards Green Jay Blind.

In Acacia Loop, near feeder #8, look for loose flocks of birds including Indigo 
Bunting, Lincoln's Sparrow and Verdin.  A wintering male Black-headed Grosbeak 
was reported here recently and has become an annual occurrence.  Not seen on 
the 21st.

The Nature Center feeders continue to attract over 50 Plain Chachalacas at 
feeding time (8 am and 1 pm).  Expect to see plenty of Green Jays here as well 
as a couple of Clay-colored Thrushes, Long-billed Thrashers and Ladder-backed 
Woodpeckers.
