Dear Texbirders, I had a very pleasant morning birding in Port A. Winter is definitely on the way: there was a Grasshopper Sparrow at Charlies' Pasture North, a Sedge Wren at Charlies' Pasture South and about 25 Redheads at the Birding Center. However, someone forgot to tell the Least Bitterns. There was a very cooperative male posing at the Birding Center. The number of migrant passerines was way down from the weekend, but there were 2 redstarts at Paradise Pond, as well as one Orange-crown, a Black-and-White and a Wilson's Warbler and a couple of Common Yellowthroats. I had several yellowthroats, and a Northern Parula at the Birding Center and a parula and male Hooded Warbler at a location which will not be named. There was a beautiful female Prairie Merlin at Charlies' Pasture South and a pretty good variety of shorebirds (complete list of the latter below). I saw one thing at Paradise Pond that was very intriguing. There were several dragonflies which were holding on to grass stems and dipping their rear ends in the water and flapping their wings, acting for all the world like they were bathing. Has anyone else very seen this? Do dragonflies actually bathe?
