The bird from the Texas Dike looks like a Common Loon to me.
The Pacific should have a visible chin strap and often a line down the face to
the chin strap.
There is too much grey on the neck and the bill is not thin enough to be a
Red-throated.
Is it possible someone saw a different bird that dove before you took the
pictures. Loons can be tricksy that way.
