Greetings All:
Rich Kostecke ended September with 147 species of bird at Devine Lake.
Things really picked up for the site in October and he added eighteen
species (Long-billed Dowitcher, Northern Flicker, Cassin's Kingbird,
Clay-colored Sparrow, Sora, Couch's Kingbird, Western Meadowlark,
Broad-winged Hawk, Merlin, Marsh Wren, Indigo Bunting, Common Ground Dove,
Brewer's Blackbird, Common Raven, Barred Owl, Sedge Wren, Say's Phoebe, and
Gray Catbird) bringing him up to 165 species at the site in 2015 and
cutting Anthony Hewetson's twenty-three species lead considerably.

Things remained somewhat slow for Anthony at Clapp Park. Ending September
with 170 species at the site, October kicked out a lowly seven additions
(Blue-headed Vireo, Tennessee Warbler, Carolina Wren, Veery, Fox Sparrow,
White-throated Sparrows, and Field Sparrow) bringing him up to 177 species
at the site in 2015 and leaving him with a somewhat less commanding twelve
species lead.

Both sites have quite a bit of water and anything can happen in winter.
With a better shot at lingering fall birds, Rich is most definitely not out
of the game yet. Anthony, on the other hand, is hoping for a solid season
of oddball winter birds.

Come on Varied Thrushes!

Anthony 'Fat Tony' Hewetson; Lubbock
