The upper (and surface) winds have slackened even more across the western
Gulf region with only Corpus Christi reporting 20 kt. There was a heavy
migration last night although an hour's check in my Austin neighborhood
didn't reveal much this morning. Today only Brownsville and Corpus are
showing a moderate incoming trans-Gulf flight. From Houston eastward the
flight is pretty sparse. Interesting the arrival at New Orleans was
approaching from the SE instead of the usual SW (Houma/Grand Isle area).
Perhaps this SE tendency is responsible for reports of multiple
Black-throated Blue and Cape May Warblers on the Texas coast. Afternoons at
coastal stopover sites should be fair to good birding, although without
large numbers, for the next several days.
