This morning at our water feature in Central San Antonio we had the usual assembly of local birds, Blue Jays, Titmice, Chickadees, Carolina Wren, House Sparrows, House and Lesser Goldfinches. But at about 9:45 a Mourning Warbler hit the water, bathed, had a drink and enjoyed himself for a few minutes and then disappeared. Not five minutes after that an absolute stunner of a Baltimore Oriole flew in for water as well. I've seen all the Orioles that Texas has to offer, but rarely have I seen such a glamorous and colorful exemplar of a species in the middle of a city. He was quite the surprise. We've not had the water feature installed but for a few weeks and this bodes well for spring migration.
