Seth,
I suspect that the present bird is in fact the same male individual that
has shown up in eclipse plumage in this time frame for the previous two
late springs.

Subject: [texbirds] Masked Duck, Crimson-collared Grosbeak, & Anis at Sabal
Palm Sanctuary

Good Evening TexBirders,
It was a fantastic day out at Sabal Palm Sanctuary! While our
Crimson-collared Grosbeak is still a frequent apple eater at our feeding
station and is seen all throughout the day, the real show-stealer was our
Masked Duck who was found by a visitor along our wetlands! I rushed out
and
watched him work the wetlands for a good long while. He seemed plenty at
ease and quite focused on feeding, so hopefully he will stick around for a
few weeks like the masked ducks have done for the last couple of years!
Here is a video I took: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKnwR6QK9Hg&hd=1

Also, there has been a great push of migrants with today seeing male
Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow, Prothonotary,
Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Northern Parula, and Tennessee Warblers as
well as loads of Baltimore Orioles, a few Orchard Orioles and Summer
Tanagers.

Several Green Kingfishers are busy working our wetlands along with Least
Grebes and Soras and finally our Groove-billed Anis have returned! Also
Yellow-billed Cuckoos are also back and were seen several times this
afternoon.

It's a great time to get out and bird at Sabal Palm Sanctuary!

We hope to see you all soon.

Cheers,

- Seth
