Greetings All: Ross (Clayton) Rickett called in the afternoon to report a Northern Parula and Lazuli Bunting in the woodlands along the river below Lake Six. I chewed my liver at work until I could escape and headed on over. I worked the area below the spillway for almost two hours, dipped on both the parula and the bunting but did pick up a few highlights which more than made up for the dips (evidently the secret was to find a large group of Yellow-rumped Warblers but this group must have moved downstream by the time I arrived). Amongst the thirty-eight species tallied: 1 Green Heron, 1 Eastern Phoebe, 2 Ash-throated Flycatchers, 1 Western Kingbird, 1 Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, 1 Hermit Thrush, 1 Orange-crowned Warbler, 1 male Common Yellowthroat, 1 first spring male American Redstart, 1 Wilson's Warbler, 1 male Orchard Oriole, 1 male Bullock's Oriole, and 2 Lesser Goldfinches. Also: 1 fresh-looking Olympia Marble and my first Plain-bellied Water Snake for the year.
