A few pictures from last weeks trip are highlighted by the continuing least flycatcher at the skillern tract of Anahuac refuge http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432371 It altercated with a young male vermilion flycatcher http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432377 But the red male vermilion was near the main anahuac buildings http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432381 A harlan's hawk is in the same area ranging from the tree inside the work area fence down to the woodlot http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432386 Other pale redtails were rather soggy in the morning dew http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432388 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432387 A meadowlark singing along crossover road was a little odd. It does have yellow extending into the cheek but has lots of white in the tail. It sang a 3 note song of 3 long uni-tonal notes in response to an eastern singing nearby but the notes had a quality more like a western. http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432390 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432391 On bolivar, there was a piebald great-tailed grackle at the base of the jetty http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432355 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432357 And scattered bonaparte's gulls on the Crystal Beach beach http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432354 The ferry ride had ruddy turnstones along for the trip feeding in the gull poop http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432346 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432345 both ring-billed and herring gulls road too and joined in the begging laughing gulls http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432353 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432350 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432347 The lauging gulls were already getting black heads and many of the forster's terns had backs of the head looking like winter commons. Spring is in the air. A white-tailed kite got a rat along the texas city storm levee http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432339 But had trouble perching on the fence in the wind and swallowing the rat whole http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432338 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/148432342 All of the pictures can be browsed at http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/inbox -- Joseph C.
