This morning I witnessed 2 Great Horned Owls, 1 Red-tailed Hawk and Am. Crows interacting. I assume (please correct me if I am wrong) that since the 2 Owls were together that they will be a nesting pair. There is a nest in the tree that they were in but don't think it is of sufficient size. I know that they nest in hawk's nests but what is the minimum size needed? They called together until the sun was completely up and then stayed in the tree for some time. The male dozing. I could not see the front of the 2nd owl, only body size and back of head. I would like to look for the nest to include in the nesting survey. Suggestions? Range in which their nest might be found? At one point the Red-tailed landed in the adjoining tree and then eventually in the same tree as the owls. It did not call or appear to threaten the owls or vice versa. The owl that it was closest to was the largest (female) of the two. I was able to observe and photograph (at a distance) for over an hour. With the 3rd or 4th crow harassment the owls moved on.
