This morning I checked out Frontera Audubon Thicket in Weslaco so we could have some summer ebird data. A Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet called and sang from near the entrance. Green Kingfisher was on the long, shady pond. Several Green Parakeets fed on berries on the Washingtonia Palms. And this guy popped up several times with a parent singing in the background. Can you recognize it? http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n610/antshrike/Birds/bird6-25-12095_resize.jpg Afterwards I checked out the flood channel south of Estero Llano Grande and found three Wood Storks, a Least Bittern and two Least Terns. The terns got me to wondering if they nested at the Progreso Sewer Ponds like they did a few years ago. So I drove over to the south levee and east to the sewer ponds only to find out they had been completely removed. The dikes had been leveled and nothing but bare ground remained. This had always been a good spot for the Weslaco CBC so now we need to find out where they've been relocated. Frontera is open 8AM to 4PM Tues-Sat and noon to 4PM on Sun. Closed on Mon.
