This morning an Elegant Tern was found at Ascarate Park in El Paso by John Kiseda. It was seen and photoed by a number of local birders throughout the day. The bird looked to be very weak and could be closely approached, though it was capable of at least short flights. I have my doubts whether it will be alive in the morning. Tuesday and Wednesday had very strong WSW winds which probably pushed the bird here. As one drives into Ascarate Park there is a large lake on the right and, farther down, a small cement-lined pond on the left. This smaller pond has two islands at its north end. The bird was seen either on the islands or the nearby shore.
