John and I had a nice morning at Delta Lake County Park, where low water
levels have encouraged some unusual shorebirds to winter. We were mainly
following up on earlier observations by Dan Jones and Mary Gustafson, plus
an earlier visit by John. Obviouusly the Snowy Plover occurrence and
numbers were unexpected, but I added Bonaprte's Gull, Sanderling and
Black-bellied Plover to my semi-mythical Hidalgo County list, and it's
always good to record three falcon species in one location.

Snowy Plover  73    Many, many birds spread out in a group on the mudflats.

Semipalmated Plover  1    Seen in with the large group of Snow Plovers. Had
browner back, full band across breast.
