All, have been observing a new (for me) behavior the last couple of days and I just wanted to see if this was old hat or unusual. I have had Barn Swallows nesting on my house for last 4 years (new construction 5 years ago). This year they seem to be not very interested in their usual nesting sites. They have previously already fledged one brood by now, but nothing so far this year. Yesterday I noticed activity around the nest on the back porch, but on looking found it to be THREE Cave Swallows. This morning, the BARS have been actively repairing nest on front porch but have been having heated interaction with more Cave Swallows! I know that Cave Swallows have been displacing Cliff Swallow colonies and thought they had similar requirements and nesting habits, but the BARS nest construction is very different, correct? Just trying to understand this (for me) anomaly. thanks for any info, feedback! -- Ian Layton Cedar Creek. TX Bastrop Co.
