I spontaneously decided to get out and travel a bit and went to bird the Sayersville loop to Arbuckle road and back home this morning...Screech Owl stuck in this plastic box was really sucking the birds from the woods but batteries died and I could not find a second to go with the good on it found so I had to use my God given one. Best was likely a White-breasted Nuthatch on Old Sayers road that came in to the tape briefly, ..Elsewhere a RB Nuthatch....I did not take the gps along but the WBNU is north of Sandy Creek a ways. There is sort of old barn with a few trees on the west side of the road in a semi-open pasture where there were loads of sparrows...I meant to mark mileage when I got to Arbuckle Rd. but forgot..WBNUs are relatively hard to come by in Bastrop Co... ..Had a lot of other birds come in to owl as well...There were loads of Pine Siskins, a Hairy Woodpecker (heard only), Fox and Harris's Sparrows, a Brown Creeper and a Blue-headed Vireo that I really struggled with an am still not sure of it's true ID. The previously reported Vermilion Fly. has been a no show for several days and I could not find any of the recent Ferruginous Hawks today...I birded on Old Sayer's Rd. for almost 2 hours and never had a single car or truck drive by....Ah Sunday mornings. -- Brush Freeman Independent and affiliated Field Biologist 361-655-7641 http://texasnaturenotes.blogspot.com/ Finca Alacranes., Utley,Texas The greatest musician of all time is mother nature.
