Well, I think I'd be looking at the mode sense switch first.... contacts inside could be oxidized.... if that doesn't take care of it, ESR the caps in the power supply. A unit that old, there's a good chance that you will find marginal capacitors. I'm assuming you've looked at the belts and rubber....
