Might be blowing smoke here cause I'm talking off my head but the module 
should be 9-1978. I had one once that the coil or transformer right before 
the B+ diode had bad solder on it and I could smell something burning. 
Solder on the sweep module. Did you check the B+ diode for cracked solder? 
You don't say anything about checking these things. Probably did and just 
figure it's a given.
