Making Progress....I think?

I resoldered the Flyback just for the Heck of it. Then I went
in and was gonna resolder that V.Reg IC with the Heat Sink on it which was
Overheating on the Main board. I think its IC4121. It just came apart when I
touched it - the leeds just broke near the Case. Its an LM7909 , and I had a
7808 Laying around here, so I threw that in with a bigger heat sink salvaged
from an Old Monitor Chassis.

Fired it up with the regular heaters, and I must say the
Picture is looking better. Its less Grainy, but I still have too much red.
Its Just enough to prevent the color WHITE from being produced in the mix. I
shut down, then redid the Wrap on the FBT as Promised. This Time I measured
the Original Heater was 4.2VAC , and I made enough turns duplicating around
3.9-4VAC on the FBT Core gimmick. When I Powered using that, I dont really
see much a Difference. The Red is still prominent, and reducing the POT does
not eliminate it totally. Could I have an unsalvagable CRT? Or could a Spark
Gap or other Component on the CRT PCB cause this? Maybe a bad CRT Socket?

Also, could perhaps that V.REG IC have damaged other items on the Main
Board Like an IC relating to color? Or Could I have a Bad Cap on that
causing the problem? The IC does
not get as hot with the New Heat Sink, but still quite hot & did not
measure the Voltages
on it. Everything looks fine, Except there is no White....its pink, even the
Snow.

Willie Hunter Sent me a Print of the CRT PCB - but do not have the Chassis
Print, nor do I think its in the archives.

PS: If it is the CRT, is there a way to "ZAP" that Red Gun somehow to try to
eliminate the Dirt or Junk From it? I rarely get into CRT problems too much,
so am not sure if junk on a Gun causes that Color to be more prominent? I
read somewhere along time ago, someone took a 1 Ohm Resistor, and jumped I
think it to G2 and the suspected Gun some way or another, and was able to
clear a fault....? The Resistor Opens up , but not before some extra juice
was able to dislodge the Debris...at least thats how I remember it.

Steve,
Try different number of wraps around the fly to achieve the proper voltage.

Hi Willie:

Yes, I had done that before , and still had a problem with the
Pix.....although a different one. What threw me off was when I hooked the
normal Heaters back up, and measured the Voltage on my 4-5 Turns of Wire on
the FBt core, I had lost it....it was less than 1VAC. Thats when I started
doubting the Flyback. I guess I will Rewind it again, and measure it. It was
awfully strange.

Nothing is wrong with the G2 Voltage.what you have is a bad tube.Isolating
the heaters from
the circuit and put about 3 or 4 of wire around the flyback core will act as
a booster.
but the filament has to be totally disconnected from the rest of the
circuit.
Willie.
