Hi gang,

I recently repaired a DELL 17" LCD Monitor and ran
into a roadblock. I called DELL to purchase parts to
no avail. They and other Mfrs would rather you either
buy new equipment or let one of their high priced
regional reps do the work.

Anyhow, I ended up repairing the power module myself.
If I recall correctly HP deems all monitors as
Non-Repairable Units outside of warranty.

That's my 2 cents worth...

Thanks,

Other manufacturers are doing about the same thing,
lots of new products are exchange only, no parts
available, no service manuals available and
once the product is out of warranty the price to
exchange it is more than a new replacement unit. I'm
sure there are laws against some of this, unfair trade
practices, price fixing, etc. but I'm too far over
the hill to really give a damn. Maybe some
organization like NESDA should be looking into it.
Maybe they are, does anyone know?

(you need their "secret code" to unlock the cmos and
it must be so classified that they can't tell you over
the phone, by email, or snail-mail)
