I don't get many of these either, but logic would dictate that the Laser is
working, or the unit would NOT play DVDs.
If you are trying to play a CDr, instead of a factory recorded audio CD, that
would be my first suspect, till proven otherwise. Many of the DVD/CD players
will not play a CDR.

This is a five disc carousel
  This unit only plays DVD's.
Audio, CDR's it will not read TOC.
It will spin and sometimes lock up for a while trying to read the disk.
  Laser does light OK.
Are these units known for bad lasers or ribbons?
Is it possible to test the laser some how?
Don't do very many of these and would appreciate any help.
  Thank you.
