To find out if you are protected go to www.grc.com and run "shields up" it
will tell you the if you have any open ports and if you need firewall
protection.

A hub does not protect you unless it is a router, a router is a hardware
firewall. Keep Norton, a firewall does not protect against a viru*. A
firewall or router hides your computers from the internet so hackers can't
get to it.

Subject: [TechAssist] T/A computer question (firewalls)

Hi Friends
I am now stepping into the year 2004 and just had cable highspeed
internet access installed last week.
It is linked through my network of 4 computers.
The cable company (Charter) tells me that I do not need a firewall software
program. That it is supposedly incorporated into their hub.
They say that I am protected.

My question... should I take additional precautions?
Should I keep subscribing to Norton?
I, (like Joe Sopko) are computer illiterate.
So I definitely need some advice.
Thanx
