Hi Ben,
If you use a higher amp HOT (D1880/1) expect it to overheat.
Here are a few to choose from. The / indicates an internal
damper diode. Volts - Amps - Watts - tf in uS - Case
C4294 / 1500 6 50 <0.3 TO-3PJ
C3754 / 1500 6 60 <0.3 TO-3PJ
D1879 / 1500 6 60 <0.3 TO-3PM
C4292 / 1500 6 100 <0.3 TO-3PJ
