[TechAssist] Sony digital camcorder TRV-17 LCD information display ?

I don't do camcorders but took one in - Sony DRV-17 - since it was a simple
parts swap-out and not an electronic trouble-shoot. This one has a LCD
Display on the very top of the case (Not the viewfinder and NOT the 3.5"
flip-out monitor). Is there a shortcut to removing and replacing this
component or do I have to completely dissassemble and come in from the
inside? Any help much appreciated.
