Those of you that may be experiencing slow posts at the list, here is why below. This is from the list hosts. (Please DO NOT reply to this post on list!) ====================== Just a heads-up: due to the recent IIS worm-of-the-week, things like mail delivery will probably be slow around here for a few days. Thanks to poor software design in Windows NT/2000, IIS, Internet Explorer, and MAPI-based Windows messaging, this one can cause all sorts of havoc on just about all Windows machines. Moral of the story: don't run Windows. Moral #2: If you've got to run Windows, don't run IIS. I just went through our logs and mailed a couple dozen random IIS administrators expressing my thoughts on the situation. I don't know about the general public, but I'm sick and tired of the crappy software-for-the-mindless-minions that Microsoft produces, and it's time something is done about it. IIS offers you absolutely nothing that you can't find in Apache, and Windows offers you nothing you can't find on non-Windows OS's. Please, people, especially if you're in a position to control things in your business, don't go the Microsoft route. And here's another thing that gets my loins in a knot: managers that don't know their *ass* from their *elbow*. If your pointy-haired boss is about to go out and spend $15,000 on the latest-greatest intel hardware to run the latest-poorest version of an OS from Redmond, ask him to consider this: not only is he wasting money now, but when the site gets compromised by some silly VB macro, and has to be taken down for several hours for an OS reinstall, and the business loses money, who's head is going to roll then? So if your posts to FreeLists mailing lists seem to take a long time for the next few days, feel free to thank your L-User MCSE pals for your time.
