We frequently see where that has happened in the Sharp 8mm units, but the
mechanism and reel torques will check good and we cannot duplicate the
problem on the bench. We think the tape is just sticking to the drum. When
the surface finishes and humidity are just right, the tape wants to stick.
Also if the tape has been threaded up for a long time it seems to get
especially sticky. So about the only thing we can do is to advise the
customer to remove the cassette if they do not expect to use the camcorder
in the near future. This seems to have minimized the problem.
There are some common problems with the Sharp 8mm units that can cause the
tape to be left out on eject, but then it happens pretty much all the time.
