The LED is blocked when the cassette is down so it would not matter if it
was weak. If it was weak, it would be trying to pull in the basket without a
cassette, or at least indicating error without a cassette. Probable cause
depends on who made the mechanism and the model year. If you would post that
information you would get some better guesses.
