I finally fixed the whining SMPS transformer on this set. I also determined that this is the same transformer as the ones in similar chassis. (forgot to write it down--easily searchable in parts finder--which I don't have here) I dipped the transformer just like I used to dip NAP yokes. I put hung it upside down in a can of minwax polyurethane overnight--then hung it to dry for a couple of days. IT WORKED!! The bummer---as soon as I turn on the set---there is another whine---from the yoke (bonded no less)---jeesh. I ran down to the hardware store for a spray can of the same stuff and soaked it well. Told the customer to let it dry for a few hours before firing it up again. I/we know that some noise from the yoke is normal---but this customer was well tuned into the othe noises coming from the set---so he wanted this one gone also. He may or may not have heard it after the back was back on but I had to at least go through the motions to stiffle it-----edith. TV Doctor Avalon.
