Unit has two problems. The first being a broken flex print feeding the swing
out LCD viewer, I'm told this model is notorious for this problem. The
second problem is more serious and may have been caused by the first
problem. According to the customer the second problem occured shortly after
the flex print problem. Could have been a coincidence.

Symptom:

While recording (or playback with a known good tape) the image breaks down
intermittently displaying a few horizontal black bars in the small view
finder (the larger LCD doesn't work). You can clearly see a normal image in
between the break downs. Also, the video glitch is in sync with the audio
breaking down, it sounds choppy, sometimes with a brief moment of silence
just before the image stabilizes (only to do the whole thing over again, and
again). This problem occurs while recording or playing.

Any ideas fellow?
