I did finally catch it in the act of shutting down, wasn't easy only about a
250 ms to 500ms window. During the instant proceeding shutdown the color
disappears (goes B&W) and vertical shrinks a bit (simmilar to letter box).
But I've allready tried the flyback, the Vertical IC, The LM317 on the
central heat sink, HDT connections top and bottom, main board connections,
Really running out of things to try. I see Keith worked on one last year but
didn't see a solution although he asked about a main board so ?? My thoughts
now is that it is either some stupid little part, or there is some mod that
may need to be preformed..........

If it shuts down for no good reason I would reset the screen contol. That
is a critical setting for some reason. Turn it up until retrace and the
back it off just enough to clear the picture. If that's not it I would
change zener diodes 6631 (BZX79-B18 or 9331-669-30133) and 6638 (BZX79-B10
or 9331-668-70133). I have heard it said Philips never learned how to make
a reliable zener diode. There is also a shutdown line for loss of vertical
deflection. I think you could see it drop down to a line before going off
if that was the problem. Let us know what you find. John.
